Micah J. Nichols is an Associate attorney at Beers Mallers Backs & Salin, LLP and is part of the firm’s business and elder law practice groups. He is a 2009 graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois and a 2012 graduate of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies and was an Octofinalist in the Sherman Minton Moot Court.

After graduating from law school, Micah completed a one-year judicial clerkship in the Allen Circuit Court where he clerked for the Honorable Thomas J. Felts, the Honorable Craig J. Bobay, and Magistrate John D. Kitch, III.

At Beers Mallers Backs & Salin, LLP and as part of the Elder Law practice group, Micah provides legal services in three areas: First, he advises clients on their basic estate planning needs, including wills, powers of attorney and living wills, and also provides guidance on more sophisticated estate and tax plans, including establishing revocable and irrevocable trusts, supplemental needs trusts, and minors’ trusts and the funding of those trusts. Second, he assists clients with obtaining guardianship over their minor or incapacitated loved one through the Court process and advises clients on their duties and responsibilities of being legal guardians. Third, he counsels clients on asset preservation, Medicaid and nursing home expense planning.

As part of the firm’s business practice group, Micah advises and assists clients with the formation of business entities and advises on various corporate issues, including sales, acquisitions, contracts, and real estate transactions.

Micah also has a special interest in the criminal expungement process because as a clerk for Judge Felts, he worked with him in creating and writing form expungement petitions and orders that are now used throughout the State of Indiana by the Indiana State Court Administration and Indiana Judicial Center.
